EADS Defence & Security (DS) has been awarded a multimillion-euro contract to develop the broadband module of a new generation of radio terminals for the German Armed Forces.
Under the contract, Defence Electronics, an integrated activity of DS, will develop the broadband module for a new generation of radio terminals.
The contract, a part of the project for designing the Bundeswehr’s software-defined joint radio system ‘SVFuA’ (streitkräftegemeinsame verbundfähige funkgeräteausstattung) is aimed at optimising the mobile voice and data communication for German Forces in the coming decade.
The company has already set up specialised development and production facilities at its Munich, Ulm and Friedrichshafen locations for the new systems.
The radio terminals with broadband capability enable the transmission of large data volumes over great distances, while at the same time ensuring optimum resistance to jamming.
The Federal Office for Information Management and Information Technology of the Bundeswehr (IT-AmtBw) has awarded the contract.
