Cubic Defence Applications has received more than $5m in new orders from the US Army and US Navy for its proprietary AN/ARS-6 V12, a powerful new personnel locator system (PLS).
All branches of the US armed services use Cubic personnel locator systems and Nato combat search and rescue (CSAR) teams use the compact and powerful receiver-transmitter to locate downed pilots during operations.
Pilots in difficulty use their survival radios to communicate with the PLS systems, which are installed aboard CSAR aircraft. This allows CSAR crews to locate and extract personnel quickly and without detection by enemy forces.
The US Army Communications and Electronics Command, recently awarded Cubic a new five-year, follow-on requirements contract with a potential ceiling value of $32m. The first delivery order under the contract is for approximately $4.5m.
In addition, the US Navy, another long-standing customer, has booked approximately $1m in orders this fiscal year.
The system features interoperability with new-generation survival radios like General Dynamics’s PRC-112G HOOK radio and Boeing’s PRQ-7 CSEL radio, and has new data features that allow two-way text messaging and GPS location from those radios. Cubic’s PLS is also compatible with all standard emergency beacons.
