Slovenia’s new army chief has warned that the armed forces will be impacted by growing cost-cutting measures in defence spending.
Major General Alojz Steiner said that the army will have to carry out restructuring to adapt to a 19% cut in defence spending.
He also said that the army was in good condition to weather the recession, with an increase in the number of recruits signing up in the past few months.
The total number of professional and reserve soldiers is expected to hit 10,000 by the end of the year.
