Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has won two contracts worth a combined US$37m for deliveries of variants of the Protector Remote Weapon Station (RWS).

The US Army awarded the firm a US$11m contract as part of the $1.4bn Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS II) framework agreement signed in August 2007.

CROWS is a joint acquisition program for weapon stations for the US Army’s vehicle programmes.

The Protector RWS, in the CROWS II configuration, enhances troop protection and lethality by providing soldiers with the ability to acquire and engage targets while inside the safety of a vehicle.

General Dynamics also made a US$26m contract for deliveries of M151 Protector RWS for Stryker vehicles to the US Army.

These deliveries will begin in the first half of 2009.
