General Dynamics C4 Systems has announced plans to employ an extra 900 workers by the end of the year.

The extras will be employed in the technology and communications arm of the business, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.

C4 Systems currently employs 10,000 workers and has communications and technology contracts with US military and security agencies, including the departments of Justice and Homeland Security.

Last week, General Dynamics reported a first quarter earnings increase of 32 percent mainly generated by sales of armoured vehicles and tanks.

Sales in the combat division rose more than 27 percent to US$1.99bn during the first quarter, but information systems and technology sales dropped 1.3 percent to US$2.35bn.
