Lockheed has been awarded a contract to upgrade more than 60 advanced gunnery training systems (AGTS) for M1A1 and M1A2 main battle tanks to keep warfighters prepared for a dynamic operational environment.
Under the $28.6m contract awarded by the US Army Program Executive Office of Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), the company will also provide 11 new M1A2 training systems.
The upgrades to AGTS include integration of scalable advanced graphics engine (SAGE) image-generation technology, new graphic user interfaces, such as more pull-down menus for the instructor screens.
SAGE features an extensive visual database that provides warfighters with a detailed environment and provides more realistic targets.
AGTS is a simulator that has been designed to provide training in precision gunnery skills to individuals, crews, platoons and companies as well as enable quick transition of trainees to live fire or combat gunnery.
The company has delivered more than 200 AGTS systems and upgrades to the US Department of Defense customers with an additional 180 to foreign partner nations to date.
