BAE Systems has developed a series of body-wearable antennas (BWA), which will equip the soldiers with a leverage of battlefield information and connectivity.
The BWA has been designed to provide continuous 360° coverage for improved situational awareness and communication capabilities of a military team.
The system reduces the load carried by soldiers on the battlefield and allows them to communicate on the front line without the need for conventional radio whip-antennas systems.
A concept demonstrator developed to display the technology also transmitted voice and video data, and GPS location from a helmet-mounted camera.
The technology is also being explored for use by fire-fighters and police patrol team members in conducting search and rescue operations.
