Tognum has been selected by BAE Systems and General Dynamics (GD) Land Systems to provide propulsion systems for the US Army’s ground combat vehicle (GCV) infantry fighting vehicle.
The propulsion systems will be based on the proven MTU Series 880 and 890 engine platforms to meet the requirements of each vehicle platform.
The engines are technologically advanced high-speed diesel engines for ground combat vehicles with an unrivalled power-to-weight ratio and a broad range of capabilities.
Production of the propulsion systems will be carried out at the company’s facility in South Carolina, US.
BAE and GD were recently awarded the 24-month technology development phase contract to complete the preliminary design of the GCV.
The US Army has plans to field more than 1,870 GCVs to replace some of the Bradley fighting vehicles.
