The US Army has awarded a contract to General Dynamics (GD) Ordnance and Tactical Systems for the production and delivery of 30mm M789 high-explosive dual-purpose (HEDP) ammunition cartridges.
The 30mm M789 HEDP ammunition cartridge is the tactical round of the US Army’s Apache AH-64 helicopter.
The helicopter, widely used in current combat operations, provides the army with accurate air support and minimal collateral damage.
The company was recently awarded a similar contract by the US Army for 30mm M788 low-cost target practice cartridge for use in the M230 chain gun.
Work under the $35.6m contract will be carried out at the company’s facility in Illinois, US.
