The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a contract to General Dynamics (GD) UK to continue to support the Bowman combat information and platform BISA (BCIP) sustainment programme.
Under the £110m contract, GD will deliver a series of sustainment and upgrade activities on the BCIP programme and also deliver the new BCIP 5.5 capability.
GD UK C4I Systems vice-president Andrew Browne said, “This contract secures the future of Bowman for UK armed forces and ensures significant cost savings for the MoD and taxpayers.
“It also ensures that the user gets the latest capability rapidly, easily and effectively, and that the UK maintains an important sovereign core capability and skills base,” he added.
The BCIP 5.4 capability, delivered earlier this year, provides enhanced battle planning, a stable and robust tactical internet and improved situational awareness.
The programme will continue the process of simplifying the user’s experience of Bowman BCIP 5.4 capability, while the new BCIP 5.5 is scheduled for fielding in 2013.
