Raytheon has been awarded a contract by the US Army for the final phase of the Excalibur Ib development programme.
This phase of the development programme will conclude with warfighter tests and qualifying tests for fielding the system in the battlefield.
The Excalibur Ib is a long-range, precision-guided artillery projectile featuring a non-spinning fixed base, a reprogramming port and extended-range GPS-guided artillery round.
The system, based on combat-proven Excalibur Ia, has been designed to meet the growing warfighter requirements.
Raytheon has conducted more than 50 live fire tests since August 2010 to further refine the Excalibur Ib design.
The contract is valued at $36m.
