The Australian Government has opened new headquarters of the national cyber security centre in Canberra with an aim to strengthen the country’s online resilience.
The centre will help ensure cyber safety by safeguarding national critical infrastructure and the country’s businesses and public, while creating new job opportunities in the region.
The purpose-built facility will see collaboration between the Australian industry, businesses, universities, not-for-profit organisations and governments.
Operating as a global monitoring capability, the Australian cyber security centre will be equipped with new and advanced cyber threat detection and warning systems.
It will serve as the central hub for cyber security information, advice and assistance to all people of the country.
The facility is integrated into the Australian Signals Directorate. It serves as the hub for the Joint Cyber Security Centres located in all capital cities, which encourages stronger collaborations between more than 150 organisations across private and public sectors.
The centre will help address the cyber security priorities of the Australian Government in three critically important areas.
The hub will help deliver cyber security advice and assistance to businesses and the community, prevent and disrupt offshore cyber-enabled crime, and protect the specialised tools the Australian Signals Directorate uses to accomplish its missions.
