Missions Systems Australia has secured a contract to deliver helmet-mounted fused night vision systems to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The night vision systems will help in improving visibility and target detection capabilities in low or no light situations, enhancing ADF personnel’s capabilities in all conditions.
The capability is expected to be rolled out by 2023, supported by a A$173m ($130.9m) investment by the federal government.
As agreed, Australia will procure more than 5,500 night vision systems from the company.
Australian Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds said: “The new fused night vision systems will provide greater survivability to our ADF personnel through increased situational awareness and the ability to detect movement at greater distances.
“The fused night vision system will also allow augmented reality enhancements, including location and navigation data in the heads-up display.

With 150 employees nationally, Mission Systems Australia has maintenance and distribution facilities across the country.
Earlier this month, Australia signed an agreement with the US to jointly develop and share a virtual cyber training range.
As agreed, the ADF will provide its feedback on the development to the US Cyber Command’s simulated training domain called Persistent Cyber Training Environment (PCTE), which is designed to support multiple independent cyber operations training activities simultaneously.
