Maxar Technologies’ wholly owned subsidiary Vricon has secured the US Army’s One World Terrain (OWT) prototype other transaction agreement (OTA) Phase 2 contract.
The $39.3m contract follows the completion of OWT Phase 1 late last year.
The original $35.8m Phase 1 OWT contract was awarded in June 2019 to Vricon. It focused on army training and simulation.
Maxar said that the OWT programme delivers 3D global terrain capability and related information services in support of US Army mission objectives.
Upon the completion of all three phases, the total value of the OWT prototype project will stand at $94.7m.
Throughout this year, OWT Phase 2 will work on 3D geospatial components across the entire army network.

By GlobalDataThese components include support of ‘multi-domain operations, mission command systems and other non-training functions’.
Maxar CEO Dan Jablonsky said: “Maxar is proud to continue its work with One World Terrain and to provide 3D data and technology in support of army mission objectives for other very tactical use cases.
“Beyond essential simulation-ready training data, potential applications for OWT include situational awareness, mission planning, navigation, and targeting.
“Maxar is committed to offering our 3D terrain capabilities globally across industries as demand increases for a multidimensional, highly accurate digital model of the surface of the Earth.”
OWT serves as the foundational element of the Synthetic Training Environment-Information System (STE-IS), which is the army’s modernisation initiative.
STE-IS is led by the STE Cross-Functional Team at Army Futures Command (AFC) and is managed by the Program Executive Office Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). It is contracted through Army Contracting Command-Orlando (ACC-O).
In September, Maxar Technologies secured a contract to deliver portable satellite imagery ground systems to the US Army.
