Lockheed Martin has secured a contract worth $218m from the US Army to produce High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and associated hardware for an undisclosed international customer.
With the latest procurement, the system is now in the inventories of four global partners.
Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver 18 HIMARS launchers and associated equipment by December 2020.
The company will manufacture the vehicles from the ground up at its Precision Fires Center of Excellence located in Camden, Arkansas.
The lightweight mobile launcher HIMARS can be transported through C-130 and larger aircraft for rapid deployment, that fires Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets and Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles.
It comprises a launcher loader module and fire control system mounted on a five-tonne truck chassis and features a specialised armoured cab that provides additional protection for the three crew members that operate the system.
