Leidos has transitioned its Support Chain Integration Platform (SCIP) used by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to the Amazon Web Services cloud.

The company expects this move to provide the MoD enhanced operational flexibility and improved efficiency in supply chain management.

The SCIP is designed to offer secure transparency for the MoD, granting users a detailed view of their material’s status, including location and requester information.

It aims to increase efficiency and reduce costs through this comprehensive understanding.

It operates as a secure integration platform and central hub for message brokering with trading partner systems such as non-government system that lie outside of SCIP.

It supports cross-domain communication, allowing applications across different security domains to securely interact.

MoD Defence Logistics and Support chief Andy Kyte said: “The successful transition of SCIP to the MoD Cloud is a key milestone in Defence’s digital modernisation journey. Working in close collaboration with our industry partners, this project has led the field in the migration of supply chain data and services to the MoD cloud.

“This evolution will enhance our capability and unlock significant opportunities to enhance cybersecurity, improve supply chain visibility, and increase the use of AI to meet the changing demands on our armed forces.”

The shift from on-premises infrastructure to a cloud-based solution is expected to bolster the MoD’s capabilities in threat detection, sustainability, and support its broader digital transformation strategy.

The cloud transition aligns SCIP with the UK Government’s Cloud First policy.

This is anticipated to better serve the mission of the MoD and the UK Armed Forces by enabling quicker development cycles for the implementation, testing, and deployment of new capabilities.

The SCIP’s service-oriented architecture facilitates a plug-and-play approach and a federated physical deployment model, which is crucial for the supply chain, logistics support services, and asset management systems.

Leidos UK & Europe logistics and mission support vice president Simon Hutchings said: “We look forward to leveraging the now accessible data in supporting the MoD and U.K. Defence in their digital transformation to support innovative, secure, and effective solutions that are designed to counter the global challenges and threats posed by contested logistics.”

In February 2025, Leidos secured a seven-year contract to enhance meteorological and oceanographic services for the UK MoD, aiding the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence.

The contract involves delivering THOR, a scalable data and services capability, to provide the MoD with advanced environmental insights.
