L3-Micreo has received a contract from the Australia Department of Defence to manufacture and deliver more than 14,000 additional Silvershield units to the Afghanistan National Defense and Security Forces.
Under the contract, L3-Micreo will be responsible for the production, manufacture and delivery of the Silvershield vehicle-mounted force protection system.
The Silvershield units are produced under the REDWING programme to provide protection against radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Australia Defence Industry Minister Linda Reynolds stated that the capability would boost Afghanistan’s operations against insurgent and terrorist groups.
Reynolds said: “The REDWING programme is part of Australia’s broader commitment to Afghanistan’s long-term security and development.
“Australian Defence industry continues to deliver life-saving cutting-edge counter improvised explosive device (CIED) technology, which represent our enduring effect in Afghanistan.”

L3 Micreo managing director Sarah Earey said: “We continue to be extremely proud to produce these life-saving force protection systems for defence to help address the persistent and evolving threat of IEDs in Afghanistan.”
