The Australian Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded a $2.83m (A$3.8m) contract to local firm Kennelly Constructions for work at Gallipoli Barracks.
Gallipoli Barracks is a military base in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The contract is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to increase the involvement of the country’s industry in its $201.1bn (A$270bn) investment towards defence capability.
Work under the contract will include replacing the original hardstand at Gallipoli Barracks.
This will allow the second Combat Engineer Regiment to move its plant equipment while decreasing the movement of heavy vehicles near the military base’s perimeter.
Australia Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price said: “Brisbane-based Kennelly Constructions is a prominent indigenous business providing opportunities for indigenous Australians while delivering a wide range of civil, electrical, building and maintenance services across Australia.

Construction on these works will start this month and is scheduled for completion by August next year.
Australian parliament member Ryan Julian Simmonds said that the investment is expected to bring many benefits for the Gallipoli Barracks and the local economy.
Simmonds said: “This contract will not only facilitate essential upgrades to the barracks but will create more local jobs and support families in my electorate of Ryan.”
In June this year, the Government of Australia said it would invest A$101.1m ($78.2m) to upgrade Gallipoli Barracks.
