Australian Defence Minister Christopher Pyne has officially opened a new Joint Cyber Security Centre (JCSC) in Adelaide, South Australia.

The opening of the JCSC helps strengthen the Australian Government’s A$47m ($33.96m) national Joint Cyber Security programme and the country’s Cyber Security Strategy.

Pyne said: “South Australia hosts some of the nation’s most important energy, infrastructure and defence assets.

“This centre is crucial to protecting our national assets, including the wider defence industry we depend on.”

“Since June, the cybersecurity facility has attracted several partners to benefit from the ‘unique collaboration between all levels of government and industry of the country’.”

The new Adelaide facility is part of the country’s lead cybersecurity agency, the Australian Signals Directorate, and its Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC).

The centre will help support bilateral partnerships between the state and territory governments through an Australian Cyber Security Growth Network (AustCyber) Cyber Security Innovation Node located on the premises of the facility.
