Indiana National Guard in the US has activated the previously announced 127th Cyber Protection Battalion.
Headquartered in Indianapolis, the battalion will comprise around 100 citizen-soldiers and will work to prevent cyber-attacks on military networks.
The activation ceremony was held at the Indiana War Memorial.
Indiana National Guard Brigadier General Dale Lyles said: “This force structure enhances, complements and strengthens Indiana’s efforts to provide a world-class approach at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center for cyber training, testing and experimentation.
“It also provides a mechanism to connect with key players in both within Department of Defense and the private sector working inside the cyberspace.”
Overall, the unit’s cyber operations specialists will operate a cybersecurity company, a cyber warfare company and two cyber protection teams.
