Dynetics has secured a $478m cost-plus-fixed-fee contract from the US Army to develop prototypes of a thermal protection system for hypersonic weapons.
According to a US Department of Defense (DoD) statement, the scope of the contract includes the development of hypersonic thermal protection system prototypes, support materials research, and inspection.
The press release also added that the US Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
Dynetics was selected from a total of five bids received online for the contract.
Contract works will be conducted in Huntsville, Alabama. It is expected to be completed in November 2027.
A subsidiary of Leidos, Dynetics provides engineering and IT solutions for national security, cybersecurity, space, and other sectors. Its customers include the DoD, the US Intelligence Community, and Nasa.

By GlobalDataIn September, Dynetics secured a contract to manufacture its mobile, ground-based weapon system, Enduring Shield, by the US Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Missiles and Space. This system is designed to counter cruise missile (CM) and unmanned aircraft system (UAS) threats.
The contract involved the delivery of 16 field-able launcher prototypes, 60 interceptors, and related all-up round magazines (AUR-M) for the Enduring Indirect Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) scheme.
Last year, the company tested US Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s (USASMDC) Lonestar tactical space support payloads.
In 2018, Dynetics was selected by the USASMDC Technical Center programme for the development of small satellites.
