The Defence Materials Technology Centre (DMTC) is set to partner with Thales Australia to determine the potential benefits of networking equipment carried by the soldiers.
The new contract was announced at the Defence Materials Technology Centre (DMTC) Annual Conference to support future capabilities of the soldiers and improve the country’s defence capability.
Under the contract, the companies will explore the possibility of networking on equipment such as small arms and future battle systems.
DMTC focuses on providing enhanced defence and security capabilities. It leads and manages research and development in defence and other related sectors.
Australian Defence Industry Minister Linda Reynolds said: “The contract is an example of how the government is continuing to invest in the local defence industry and developing defence capability.
“DMTC continues to play a key role as a leader within the Australian defence industry sector. From partnering with industry to enhance joint force capability to building international research communities, DMTC is delivering outcomes for defence and industry.”

Established in 2016, the Defence Innovation Hub plans to invest around $640m in developing innovative technologies over the decade until the fiscal year 2025-26.
Last year, DMTC was awarded a $287,000 contract for the development of lightweight armour for the soldiers.
