BAE Systems has finalised contracts totalling approximately $2.5bn with Sweden and Denmark for the procurement of new CV90 combat vehicles.

These agreements are part of a tri-lateral framework involving the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) to facilitate the purchase of the CV9035MkIIIC vehicles for both nations.

The framework also includes provisions for supplying additional vehicles for Ukraine, with funding from both the Swedish and Danish governments.

This follows a prior contract between BAE Systems and Sweden’s FMV established in May 2024.

As per the recent contracts, Denmark is set to acquire 115 CV9035MkIIICs, while Sweden has committed to purchasing 50 units.

In August 2024, DALO allocated nearly DKr 10bn ($1.4bn) for these armoured vehicles to enhance its military capabilities.

The latest contracts also encompass additional costs for spare parts, support services, logistics operations, and training programmes.

Royal Danish Army chief Peter Boysen said: “The infantry fighting vehicle is an essential component of the heavy brigade we are currently building. The 115 new vehicles will significantly enhance Denmark’s contribution to collective security and international operations.

“With the 44 existing vehicles, we will have a total of 159 vehicles, providing us with substantial strength – also from an international perspective.”

The CV9035MkIIIC model aligns with the latest CV90 mid-life upgrade programme standards for the Netherlands and features an advanced turret design that enhances both form and function.

BAE Systems’ CV90 infantry fighting vehicles offer combat capabilities in the 20-38-tonne (t) class and can integrate various weapon systems for comprehensive target engagement.

With 1,900 vehicles ordered across 17 variants, the CV90 has covered more than 8 million km.

It is operational in ten European countries, including eight NATO members, and has seen service in Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Liberia.

BAE Systems Hägglunds managing director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said: “These new CV9035MkIIICs will extend the capabilities of the armed forces of Sweden and Denmark.

“They will also provide their crews with improved situational awareness and increased mobility, protection, and lethality.”
