Bundeswehr, the unified German armed forces, is set to receive logistics capability boost with the procurement of 568 new vehicles from Rheinmetall.
The order, valued at more than €330m ($341.8m), includes 349 UTF-trucks in both 5-tonne (t) and 15t models, and 219 swap-body trucks, 121 of which feature a protected driver’s cab.
The German Parliament’s (Bundestag) budget committee sanctioned the funding for this acquisition in December 2024, allowing Rheinmetall to register these orders in the final quarter of the year.
This purchase is part of a larger framework agreement established in July 2024, which could potentially encompass up to 6,500 trucks, reaching a gross value of €3.5bn over seven years.
The agreement also introduces a new vehicle class, the 4×4 UTF 3.5t, designed for high commonality within the UTF family.
Rheinmetall’s delivered a total of 2,015 logistics vehicles in 2024 which marked a step in modernising the Bundeswehr’s truck fleet and enhancing its logistical operations.
