The Brazilian Army has selected the Raytheon Technologies’ unit Collins Aerospace to provide its high frequency (HF) cellular communications system.
The procurement is part of the Brazilian Army’s border surveillance and monitoring strategic program (SISFRON).

The programme is aimed at improving communications in more remote areas such as the Amazon.
It provides a ‘point-to-point call connection rate’ for mobile HF users by linking Collins’ URG-IV HF fixed site radio stations with its HF Cellular server and merging it with existing communications infrastructure.
The call connection rate is estimated to be above 95%.
The HF communication system enhances call reliability and transmission quality, reaching distances of over 2,400km.
It allows the Brazilian Army to gain real-time position reporting through HF.
The system also enables HF interoperability for naval, ground and airborne assets.
Collins Aerospace Brazil managing director Marcelo Vaz said: “It can be demanding for soldiers to establish reliable and secure long-distance communications in remote jungle regions like the Amazon.
“Our HF Cellular system is easy to use, allowing for quick connections and long distances even in tough communication environments for improved capabilities of the existing mobile HF assets.”
In October, Collins opened a new customer experience centre to support crucial US Army aviation initiatives.
