The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) of guided multiple launch rocket system (GMLRS) unitary rocket pods and Army Tactical Missiles System (ATACMS) unitary missiles to Bahrain.
With an estimated cost of $300m, the possible deal has been approved by the US State Department.

Under the FMS, the Kingdom of Bahrain has requested the acquisition of a total of 120 M31 GMLRS unitary rocket pods and 110 units of the M57 T2K ATACMS unitary missiles.
With an aim to help support the US foreign policy and national security objectives, the potential delivery of the new equipment will enable Bahrain to enhance its capabilities to meet current and future threats.
Furthermore, the proposed sale is expected to provide the country with increased security for its critical oil and natural gas infrastructure, in addition to other significant national events.
In addition, the possible deal will include the provision for personnel training and training equipment and software development, as well as the US Government contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, and other associated elements of logistical and programme support.
To be used by Bahrain for strengthening its homeland defence and deterring regional threats, the enhanced capabilities will not affect the basic military balance in the region.
Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control will serve as the principal contractor for the probable deal.
