BAE Systems has conducted a capability demonstration of its FireNet software-defined communication transceiver to address channel capacity and waveform requirements for rotary-wing aircraft.
During the demonstration, BAE Systems displayed the transceiver’s additional channel capabilities.
The FireNet system is designed to meet the US Army Aviation Branch’s channel capacity and waveform requirements, while also having low size, weight and power demands.
The system comes with additional narrow-band, wide-band and Link-16 capabilities to provide the armed forces with a unified tactical network.
The modular open-system architecture provides additional line-of-sight voice, data, and network communications ranging from very high frequencies to S-Band.
It also has a small, standardised footprint, which enables easy integration with existing aircraft.

According to a BAE Systems statement, work on the FireNet system will be conducted at its site in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The company delivers communications products covering the high frequency and ultra-high frequency spectrums for airborne, maritime and ground-based applications. BAE Systems’ products are equipped with multi-band, secure anti-jam voice, data imagery transmission, and network-capable communication capabilities.
Last month, BAE Systems was selected as a prime contractor on Lot 1 of the US Army’s $2.4bn National Cyber Range (NCR) Complex Event Planning, Operations, and Support hybrid contract.
It will compete for orders in systems testing, cybersecurity integration and range support services under the ten year IDIQ multiple-award contract.
