The Israeli Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected the electrified vehicle propulsion solutions provider Allison Transmission to support its future infantry fighting vehicles (IFV).

Allison will provide its 4800 Specialty Series (SP) transmissions for the eight-wheeled Eitan armoured fighting vehicles (AFV).

The company noted that the 4800 SP transmissions will be assembled in power packs by the AFV’s power pack integrator Rolls Royce Solutions America, formerly MTU America.

Allison Transmission Defence Programs vice-president Dana Pittard said: “The Israeli Defence Force has a remarkable defence industrial base that is committed to innovation and fielding transformative technologies.

“Allison is proud to provide our 4000 Series transmissions with advanced features for the Eitan armoured fighting vehicle.”

The first production order was awarded to the company in September. Delivery of the transmissions is expected to take place over multiple years.

The Eitan is designed to replace a portion of Israel’s M113 tracked armoured personnel carrier fleet.

The vehicle’s development and production is being led by the Israeli MoD’s armoured vehicles directorate.

Eitan’s three variants, an armoured personnel carrier (APC), a command vehicle, and an infantry combat vehicle (ICV), will be equipped with an uncrewed turret and a 30mm cannon.

The Allison 4800 SP model is currently featured in other large 8 x 8 wheeled ACVs, including the US Marine Corps (USMC) amphibious combat vehicle and the Boxer AFV that is used by countries including Lithuania, the UK, Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands.

In the large-wheeled ACV segment, the 4800 SP meets all customer needs for performance and durability.

In December 2019, Allison Transmission collaborated with the US Army to equip the M113 armoured personnel carrier family of vehicles with modernised X200-4A propulsion systems.
