The UK’s aerospace, defence & security industry registered a 4.4% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 15.87% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the aerospace, defence & security industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 17.26% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 1.08% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s aerospace, defence & security industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.66% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s aerospace, defence & security industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 53.52% in September 2022, registering a 92.96% growth over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Research Scientists claimed a 14.45% share, an increase of 8.82% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 13.67%, registering a 47.76% decline from August 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.2%, up 5% over the previous month.

Top five aerospace, defence & security companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 47.97% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s aerospace, defence & security industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

James Fisher and Sons posted 77 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 305.26% over the previous month, followed by Airbus with 46 jobs and a 155.56% growth. Huntington Ingalls Industries with 23 IT jobs and Leidos Holdings with 21 jobs, recorded a 63.49% decline and an 110% growth, respectively, while Thales recorded an increase of 15.38% with 15 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.81%, up by 30.97% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 28.91% share, registered a decline of 23.71% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 12.5% share, up 255.56% over August 2022.
