The global aerospace, defence & security industry noticed a 9.4% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by The Boeing’s 13.79% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity declined 10.42% when compared with June 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 17.49% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, up 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 3.52% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 10.6% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44.69% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in July 2022, a 29.5% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 21.77% in July 2022, down 21.18% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 21.41% share in July 2022, a decline of 34.54% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.53% share in July 2022 and a drop of 38.95% over June 2022.
Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 32.34% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during July 2022 over June 2022.
The Boeing posted 641 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 19.47% over the previous month, followed by Raytheon Technologies with 597 jobs and a 7.87% decline. Northrop Grumman with 588 IT jobs and General Dynamics with 477 jobs, recorded a 17.53% decline and a 70.04% drop, respectively, while Huntington Ingalls Industries recorded a 45.82% rise with 436 job postings during July 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 78.36% share, which marked a 33.37% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 12.74%, registering a 7.64% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 8.18% share and an 11.01% drop over June 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.43% and a month-on-month drop of 47.37%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.3%, registering a 27.27% increase over the previous month.
