The global aerospace, defence & security industry noticed a 5.0% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by Northrop Grumman’s 13.03% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.28% when compared with September 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 16.41% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.9% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 8.25% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 21.37% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44.51% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in October 2022, a 16.89% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 23.33% in October 2022, down 15.18% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 18.64% share in October 2022, a decline of 18.67% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.72% share in October 2022 and a drop of 13.74% over September 2022.

Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 16.69% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Northrop Grumman posted 615 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 3.15% over the previous month, followed by Boeing with 573 jobs and a 6.37% decline. Raytheon Technologies with 541 IT jobs and General Dynamics with 335 jobs, recorded a 21.48% decline and a 41.84% drop, respectively, while Huntington Ingalls Industries recorded an 8.79% drop with 332 job postings during October 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 74.94% share, which marked a 20.66% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 17.44%, registering a 9.15% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 7.16% share and a 12.21% drop over September 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.25% and a month-on-month drop of 14.29%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.21%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
