Australia’s aerospace, defence & security industry registered a 4.4% drop in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 27.13% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the aerospace, defence & security industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 36.44% share in January 2022, recording an increase of 9.95% over the last three-month average share.

 

Top five job classifications in Australia’s aerospace, defence & security industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 93.97% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s aerospace, defence & security industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 56.03% in January 2022, registering a 30.85% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Research Scientists claimed a 14.66% share, a decrease of 80.23% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 8.62%, registering a 66.67% rise from December 2022.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 7.76%, down 66.67% over the previous month.

 

Top five aerospace, defence & security companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 45.88% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s aerospace, defence & security industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

The Boeing posted 70 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a drop of 50.7% over the previous month, followed by Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems with 11 jobs and a 450% growth. Thales with 10 IT jobs and General Dynamics with 8 jobs, recorded a 65.52% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while L3Harris Technologies recorded a decline of 53.85% with 6 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 59.48%, down by 42.98% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 34.48% share, registered a decline of 31.03% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 6.03% share, down 84.09% over December 2022.
