The following top defence events of 2019 include the major global exhibitions and trade shows coming up throughout the rest of 2019. Some major defence events, such as the Security and Counter Terror Expo 2019 have already taken place, while others such as Farnborough Air Show work on a cycle of every two years and won’t be happening this year.
What are some of the upcoming top defence events of 2019?
IDEF 2019, 30 April – 3 May, Istanbul, Turkey
IDEF2019 is Turkey’s 14th biennial international defence industry fair, taking place this year at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul between 30 April and 3 May 2019.
The event is hosted by the Ministry of National Defence and under the management of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation. IDEF2019 will be divided into six areas: land, naval, aviation and aerospace, transportation and logistic support activities, equipment and tools for supply department, and security.
Of the 1,069 listed exhibitors, US companies Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman Armament Systems, and FLIR systems will be in attendance; as will France’s Airbus and MBDA Systems.
IMDEX Asia 2019, 14 – 16 May, Singapore
The International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX Asia) 2019, which will take place in its 12th biennial edition at the Changi Exhibition Center in Singapore, focuses specifically on maritime defence and security.

FEINDEF 2019, 29 – 31 May, Madrid, Spain
The FEINDEF international defence and security exhibition will be held at Pavilion 8 in the Spanish capital of Madrid from 29-31 May 2019.
FEINDEF presents an opportunity for the Spanish defence sector to promote domestic research and development in Spain, as well as bringing in foreign innovation and investment into the Spanish and European Defence Agency security spheres.
Domestic defence firms include Indra Sistemas and Santa Bárbara Sistemas – a subsidiary of General Dynamics, while international companies such as Airbus, Babcock and Thales will also have booths.
IDET 2019, 29 – 31 May, Brno, Czech Republic
IDET 2019, the international fair of defence and security technology, is a biennial exhibition taking place in Brno, Czech Republic between 29 and 31 May 2019.
Touted as one of the biggest defence technology shows in the Central and Eastern European region, IDET receives exhibitors from around 30 countries to showcase products and technological solutions to contemporary security challenges.
The UK’s BAE Systems and Germany’s Rheinmetall will showcase their latest products, while domestic companies OMNIPOL and TATRA will also be available to talk to delegates, visitors, and journalists.
International Paris Air Show 2019, 17 – 23 June, Paris, France
To be held from 17 to 23 June at Le Bourget Parc des Expositions in Paris, France, the 53rd biennial International Paris Air Show 2019 covers both commercial aviation developments and defence-specific aviation over seven days. The first four days are reserved for trade visitor followed by three days open to the public.
Organised by the SIAE, as subsidiary of GIFAS (the French Aerospace Industries Association), the Paris Air Show features air and static displays of historical and modern fighter aircraft, as well as unmanned aerial systems, aerial cruise missiles and guided weapons, and aircraft avionics.
The 52nd Paris Air Show in 2017 attracted 322,000 visitors over the week, and 2,381 exhibitors from 48 countries. It is the oldest and most visited air show in the world, followed by the UK’s Farnborough International Air Show.
Partner 2019, 25 – 28 June, Belgrade, Serbia
The Partner international defence fair will be held in Belgrade, Serbia between 25 and 28 June 2019. Partner 2019 brings together military organisations, manufacturers and military experts to showcase the latest technology and establish ties within the defence industry. It has the objective of increasing awareness of the growing Southeast Europe defence market.
Partner is co-organised by Serbian state-owned defence equipment trader Yogoimport SDPR, and sponsored by the Serbian Ministry of Defence. The previous Partner 2017 expo involved 128 exhibitors from 23 countries and attracted 7,500 visitors.
MSPO 2019, 3 – 6 September, Kielce, Poland
The MSPO international defence industry exhibition 2019 is an annual trade show dedicated to military equipment, which will be held at the Targi Kielce exhibition centre in Poland from 3 to 6 September 2019.
Since 2012, MSPO has brought in more than 400 exhibitors from 29 nations, and around 13,000 visitors. Representatives from the Polish Ministry of National Defence, the Polish Army, and the Polish police will be in attendance. The four-day event culminates in an annual awards ceremony where the best military equipment products will be recognised.
MSPO is regarded as the third biggest European arms fair after Eurosatory and DSEI.
DSEI 2019, 10 – 13 September, London, UK
Defence Security and Equipment International (DSEI) 2019 is a leading defence equipment exhibition that takes place every two years in London, UK, this year at the ExCel centre between 10 and 13 September 2019.
It is sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defence and the Department for International Trade. DSEI 2019 is divided into five domains: aerospace, land, naval, security and a joint zone incorporating crossover themes.
More than 35,000 attendees are expected to gather to view defence products and services from around 1,600 exhibitors representing more than 50 countries.
Dubai Air Show 2019, 17 – 21 November, Dubai, UAE
Another air show occurring this year, Dubai Air Show 2019 will take place from 17-21 November 2019 at the Dubai South Air Show site.
Sponsored in part by the UAE Armed Forces, the previous show brought in 79,380 visitors and 1,200 exhibitors from 63 countries.
Key features of this year’s show include the Space Pavilion, which addresses future projects in space in collaboration with the UAE Space Agency; and the Smart Manufacturing Conference, in which key aviation stakeholders and technology companies will discuss the latest defence technology developments in the areas of big data, industrial internet of things, and advanced robotics in the aerospace sector.
