Lockheed Martin has delivered the TPS-77 multi-role radar (TPS-77 MRR) to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Latvia on schedule, following the successful completion of a site acceptance test for the system.
Being the first of a total of three radars being developed for the National Armed Forces of Latvia, the TPS-77 is expected to strengthen the country’s national defence.
The radar helps enhance Latvia’s airspace defence by enhancing its low-level flight surveillance and identification capabilities.
This results in an enhanced early warning and situational awareness, allowing the Latvian Armed Forces to make more informed and efficient decisions to combat growing threats.
Latvia Defence Minister Raimonds Bergmanis said: “Acquisition of the TPS-77 MRR is a huge investment in the strengthening of combat capabilities of the National Armed Forces, enabling the Latvian army to address current security challenges with appropriate response tools.
“Surveillance, especially low-level flight surveillance and identification is a vital part of Latvian airspace surveillance capabilities. New MRR technology is compatible with other types of radars used by other countries.”

By GlobalDataLockheed’s TPS-77 MRR radar can be truck mounted for operation at remote sites or dismounted for use at fixed sites.
Integrated with multi-role single scan technology, TPS-77 MRR enables operators to select multiple missions for the radar at a single time, such as long-range or medium-range low-level flight surveillance.
The system rotates through each 360° scan and automatically adjusts itself to the selected mission.
The TPS-77 MRRs use Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, which enables their high-power amplifiers to consume much less power. This enhances reliability while reducing life-cycle costs and extending the useful life of the radar.
In October 2015, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia signed the contract with Lockheed Martin for the acquisition of the three TPS-77 MRRs.
