By GlobalDataThe potential deal involves the sale of 210 Javelin missiles, 37 Javelin CLUs and Basic Skills Trainers (BSTs). Ukraine will use two of the CLUs for spare parts.
Intended to enhance the security capabilities of Ukraine, the possible sale will also cover US Government and contractor engineering, training, and technical services. Other related logistical and programme support services will also be included.
The procurement of the equipment and support is not expected to affect the basic military balance in the country.
US Government personnel and contractor representatives will be temporarily required to travel to Ukraine in order to carry out training.
The procurement of the Javelin system will enable the country to establish its long-term defence capacity in order to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as help address national defence requirements.
Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have formed the Javelin joint venture to serve as the principal contractor for the sale.
Javelin missiles are being provided from the US Army stocks and the CLUs will be obtained from on-hand Special Defense Acquisition Fund (SDAF) purchased stocks.
