Microsoft and Anduril Industries have broadened their collaboration to boost the next stage of the US Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) programme.
Subject to the US Department of Defense’s approval, Anduril will take charge of overseeing production, future hardware and software development, and managing delivery schedules.
This partnership further designates Microsoft Azure as Anduril’s chosen hyperscale cloud for all IVAS-related workloads and Anduril AI technologies.
The IVAS programme marks a significant advancement in military technology by equipping soldiers with a body-worn system that merges augmented reality and virtual reality.
This system enhances soldiers’ ability to perceive beyond their line of sight, improving combat effectiveness, protection from drones, and streamlining the command of uncrewed systems during missions.
Anduril Industries founder Palmer Luckey said: “The IVAS programme represents the future of mission command, combining technology and human capability to give soldiers the edge they need on the battlefield.

The collaboration draws on the strengths of both companies, ensuring the programme’s continuity while pushing forward the IVAS objectives of boosting combat effectiveness, awareness, and decision-making on the battlefield.
Anduril’s commitment to defence technology innovation, understanding of military needs, and manufacturing approach is anticipated to deliver programme developments that are aligned with the US Army’s changing requirements.
This includes scaling up production and reducing unit costs.
Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and AI expertise is expected to facilitate seamless data integration and provide real-time insights into soldier effectiveness.
AI is set to be a cornerstone of all technical advancements for national security missions, with cloud technology being crucial for delivering AI solutions whenever and wherever necessary.
As part of the agreement, Anduril will prioritise Azure as its hyperscale cloud to support its AI development efforts.
Microsoft Mixed Reality corporate vice-president Robin Seiler said: “Our soldier-centred design approach helped reimagine technology development with the Army that continuously took in real-world soldier feedback to develop a product that soldiers love.”
Previously, Microsoft and Anduril have worked together to integrate Anduril’s Lattice platform with IVAS, offering rapid AI-enabled situational awareness to enhance soldier safety and operational efficiency.
