The Indian Army has entered a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the procurement of K9 Vajra-T self-propelled artillery platforms.
The deal, valued at Rs76.287bn ($895.57m), was formalised in New Delhi with Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh presiding over the signing ceremony.
The K9 Vajra-T, a variant of the South Korean K9 Thunder, is designed in collaboration with Hanwha Aerospace to meet the specific needs of the Indian Army, ensuring adaptability across diverse terrains such as deserts, plains, and high-altitude areas.
This artillery gun, with its cross-country mobility, is expected to enhance the Indian Army’s firepower, enabling precise, deep strikes.
The project is intended to create more than 0.9 million man-days of employment over four years and encourage active participation from various Indian industries, including MSMEs.
The project aligns with ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, serving as India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ scheme.
