The Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse) has selected the PIRANHA IV 10×10 Heavy Mission Carrier (HMC) with the 155mm artillery gun module (AGM).
Switzerland’s new artillery system will see the integration of the uncrewed and remote-controlled artillery gun from KNDS Deutschland on PIRANHA IV from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS).
A corresponding procurement request is set to be submitted to the country’s parliament in the upcoming year.
The PIRANHA IV HMC vehicle is designed to combine high payload and volume with low axle loads.
With five axles, four of which are steered, the PIRANHA IV offers mobility and recoil absorption during shooting while moving.
It also features high trench-crossing capabilities and a turning circle of less than 18.5m.

By GlobalDataIn the artillery configuration, the vehicle is designed to hold a two-person crew, with the option for a third crew member along with their equipment.
GDELS Global Sales vice-president Thomas Kauffmann said: “The unmatched performance of the AGM on the PIRANHA IV in terms of firepower, precision strike and manoeuvrability sets a new standard in the area of indirect fires.
“We are confident that this latest member of the PIRANHA family will also succeed internationally.”
The PIRANHA platform allows for independent deployment on roads and enables rapid changes of firing positions even in challenging terrains.
The combination of the PIRANHA IV and the AGM facilitates 360-degree firing capabilities.
This system is designed to replace the M109 model, which has served for more than 50 years.
In June this year, GDELS and KNDS announced an agreement to integrate a 155mm and 52 calibre AGM with the Piranha HMC.
