Rheinmetall’s latest deal with the Bundeswehr signifies a pivot towards an enhanced helicopter training infrastructure.
The framework contract, valued at more than €100m ($109m), will deliver unguided 70mm practice rockets for the Tiger combat helicopters, bolstering Germany’s defence capabilities through training munitions.

The first phase of this agreement saw Rheinmetall secure an initial order worth a mid-double-digit million euro amount in the second quarter of 2024. This will facilitate the delivery of a pilot lot within the same year, with full-scale serial production expected to run from 2025 to 2029.
The 70mm practice rockets, developed in collaboration with Thales Group’s Belgian subsidiary FZ, are specifically designed for use with the Tiger combat helicopter. The unguided rockets are integral to the helicopter’s armament, enabling engagements against infantry, positions, and lightly armoured vehicles. The practice variants will allow helicopter crews to conduct realistic training exercises, important for maintaining operational readiness.

Rheinmetall has recently secured two contracts from the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).
