The US Army is merging the Joint Network Node (JNN) and Warfighter Information Network Tactical (WIN-T) in an effort to reduce costs and streamline acquisition efforts.
JNN supports asymmetrical warfare with a small number of selected individuals on the move. JNN is primarily utilising a satcom communications infrastructure that operates either at the halt or at the quick halt. WIN-T is about providing a dynamic, self-forming and self-healing network for formations on the move, as opposed to selected members on the move, in order to support asymmetrical warfare.
JNN, already has voice-video-data terminals in use. It will be regarded as the first phase of the WIN-T programme, which is intended to produce smaller, company-level, mobile satcom gear by 2009.
