The Israeli Defence Forces has reportedly executed a missile strike on Iran, which appears to be in retaliation to Tehran’s missile and drone attacks last week.
The development comes after weeks of escalating tensions between the two nations.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, which cited multiple local sources, residents in the west of the Iranian cities of Tabriz and Isfahan reported hearing explosions on the morning of 19 April and these were later confirmed to be anti-aircraft fire.
Further reports from the news agency indicated that three explosions occurred near an army base in the north-east of Isfahan, in central Iran.
Despite the disturbances, Tehran has downplayed the incident, indicating no plans for further retaliation, a stance seemingly aimed at preventing a region-wide conflict, the Financial Times reported.
In Isfahan, Iran has both a military air base and a key site associated with the nation’s nuclear programme.

On 13 April, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on Israel.
The attack involved more than 300 missiles and drones, mostly launched from within Iran.
Tehran’s strike, marking its first-ever direct assault on Israel, was in retaliation for a suspected Israeli airstrike on Tehran’s embassy compound in Damascus on 1 April.
These exchanges are considered to be part of a broader escalation since the war in Gaza began last year.
