The United States has signed an agreement with Australia, giving it greater access to top-secret military technology.
The US-Australia Defence Trade Cooperation Treaty permits the license-free export of defence goods between the countries and simplifies the process for sharing equipment, information and technology, news agency AFP reports.
The US signed a similar agreement with the UK earlier this year.
US President George Bush says the treaty will enhance military cooperation between countries as they work toward common goals in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“It helps cut through the bureaucracy so that we can transform our forces better, share technology better and, frankly, enable our private sectors to work together to develop new defence capabilities to defend ourselves,” Bush says.
