Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive aerospace, defence and security industry hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 14% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024 , ahead of Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 14% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Management Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Production Occupations with a 7% share and Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 42% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 42% of the overall hiring activity in the North American aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024.

General Dynamics posted 7,544 jobs in Q2 2024 and registered a growth of 19% over the previous quarter, followed by RTX with 5,750 jobs and a 19% drop. Lockheed Martin, with 5,156 jobs, and Northrop Grumman, with 3,715 jobs, recorded a 57% rise and a 12% drop, respectively, while Boeing recorded a 5% decline with a 3,473 new job postings during Q2 2024.

The US held the leading share of the North American aerospace, defence and security hiring activity with a 94.03% share, 0.32% decrease over Q1 2024. Canada was next with 5.17%, four-percentage-point up over the previous quarter.
