Boeing has announced that the common controller soldiers will use to integrate the systems developed under the US Army’s future combat systems (FCS) modernisation programme has successfully completed its preliminary design review.
The evaluation completed by Boeing along with Science Applications International and the lead systems integrator (LSI) for the FCS programme allows for the common controller to begin testing with the army later this year.
The common controller consolidates control of numerous systems into one integrated controller, simplifying logistics and empowering the soldier.
FCS LSI common control programme manager, Roy Seaton said that the design had reached a mature level that meets the FCS programme schedule and requirements.
“The common controller will serve many FCS systems, and this successful and timely review paves the way for our customers to evaluate early design prototypes,” Seaton said.
The common controller primarily controls the FCS class I unmanned aerial vehicle, the multifunctional utility / logistics equipment vehicle, the small unmanned ground vehicle, unattended ground sensors, and select ground vehicle functions and their respective payloads.
