The US Army has awarded a contract to Thales Communications to provide mounted cordless communication systems that will enable soldiers to maintain secure communications with the vehicle’s intercom system after leaving their vehicles.
Under the contract, the company will utilise its AN/PRC-148 JTRS Enhanced Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio to provide a Type 1 secure wireless connection between dismounted soldiers and their vehicle intercom system.
The AN/PRC-148 is the core of the system covering the 30-512MHz frequency range.
The radio’s Software Communications Architecture-compliant platform hosts all waveforms, including SATCOM IW, and enables the integration of waveforms and advanced capabilities, such as tactical networking, situational awareness and increased data rates.
The contract was awarded by the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
