Renault Trucks Defence has signed an agreement with Globecomm Systems Inc. (GSI) for 17 Sherpa carrier vehicles.

The vehicles will be tested by the US Army in preparation for delivery to Nato for the Battalions Signal.

The Sherpa family of vehicles features a carrying capacity ranging from 2t to 12t and also provide armoured protection against kinetic projectiles, splinters, mines, improvised explosives.

The carrier comes in five variants known as the Sherpa 2, Sherpa 3, Sherpa 3 Special Forces, Sherpa 5 and Sherpa 10.

Earlier GSI retained the Sherpa carrier vehicles as carriers of tactical communications stations.

The 17 Sherpa carrier vehicles will be at the Renault Trucks Defence factory in Limoges in early 2010.
