A new advanced defence system designed to protect Israeli combat troops from anti-tank missiles has been developed by Israel Military Industries (IMI).
The portable anti-missile system known as Shock Absorber can be carried in a pack and easily deployed on the ground to intercept and impede the movement of anti-tank missiles.
According to IMI, the system uses a laser-based effector employing electro-optical infra-red directional jammers and electro-optical threat detection components.
IMI land systems division chief executive officer Eyal Ben-Haim said the Shock Absorber could distract the flight paths of missiles like Kornet and Milan used by Hezbollah during the second Lebanon war.
The system, the first of its kind, attaches to an anti-tank rocket fired at troops, disrupting its path and making it explode away from the intended target.
