The US Army has awarded a contract to BAE Systems for the provision of all-weather, lightweight, handheld laser target locator systems.
Under the $41.9m contract, BAE Systems will provide its laser target locator modules (LTLM), which allow soldiers to accurately identify target locations while on foot, in daylight or at night, in total darkness, and in fog and smoke.
BAE Systems LTLM product line director Bruce Zukauskas said the compact, lightweight targeting system will give warfighters a distinct advantage on the battlefield.
“It will enable soldiers to determine target coordinates quickly, safely and accurately, and make their jobs easier,” Zukauskas said.
The LTLM weighs less than 5.5lb and includes a direct-view optic system, a night vision camera, a laser range finder, a digital compass and a GPS receiver.
Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in New Hampshire and the deliveries are scheduled to start in 2010.
