The US Army has received a UH-72A Lakota light utility helicopter from EADS North America at American Eurocopter’s production facility in Columbus, Mississippi.
The helicopter will be deployed to Germany as part of the US Army’s Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC).
The Lakotas will be used to train pilots in combat engagements at the Joint Multinational Training Command in Germany, and will carry equipment including a multiple integrated laser engagement system, a smart on-board data interface module and an electronic data manager.
The UH-72As will perform transport and support duties when deployed to the Pacific Ocean’s Kwajalein Atoll.
The US plans to acquire a total of 345 Lakotas by 2016, of which 182 helicopters have been ordered so far, including five H-72A versions for the US Navy.
