The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded a follow-on contract to BAE Systems to produce two new Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) variants.
Valued at approximately $90m (Skr900m), the new award is part of Sweden’s CV90 RENO upgrade programme.
The new variants will be supplied by HB Utveckling, a Swedish joint venture (JV) of BAE Systems.
Work under the contract will be carried out at the company’s Hägglunds facility in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, as well as by Ritek in Levanger, Norway.
Norwegian company Ritek is involved in the CV90 programme as BAE Systems Hägglunds’ industrial partner.
Delivery of the two CV90 vehicles to the Swedish Army is expected to take place between 2023 and 2027.

By GlobalDataBAE Systems Hägglunds managing director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said: “We are proud to be producing these two CV90 variants for the Swedish Army.
“The collaborative approach involved in the Swedish CV90 RENO programme has been recognised as a key success factor in achieving a timely, balanced, and cost-effective solution to meet customer’s capability requirements.”
According to FMV, the new vehicles will be named as operational support armoured bandwagon (DSPBV 90D) and pioneer armoured bandwagon (PIPBV 90D).
Once delivered, the new DSPBV 90D variants will be deployed as the forward maintenance vehicles to deliver various crucial front-line capabilities such as support, recovery, tow, and repair of the other vehicles.
The front-line support will further ensure that the overall availability of combat vehicles in the Swedish Army is maintained.
The PIPBV 90D variant will also be deployed as a combat engineer vehicle to provide mission-critical capabilities to the mechanised battalions. It will offer route clearance support and block the movement of enemy forces.
